Anne-Marie

I met Anne-Marie at the BBC Fashion Week show at Wembley Arena, so despite my losing my wallet while I was there and having to cancel all my cards, on balance it was a worthwhile trip.

Anne-Marie is a dancer with a degree from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. She started performing when she left college two years ago, appearing on cruise ships and in many theatre shows.  Her achievements include "Moll Flanders" on Granada TV, a performance for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and ITV's Drama series "The Grand." Since moving to London in January, Anne-Marie has also filmed various pop videos, fashion and hair shoots.

These photos were from a session that we did so she would have some up-to-date pictures from her composite.  Later we're going to attempt some dance photos.

Anne-Marie is interested in doing test shoots with other photographers, so if you're interested, please drop me some mail and I'll put her in touch with you.

Harriet Clay came back to do her usual excellent job with the make-up and hair.

The cropping on a lot of these makes them look like 35mm frames, but I shot them all on the Bronica.  I decided that a more rectangular cropping suits the vertical photos.

Millennium

These are two photos of what Harriet called the "Millennium" look.  I'm not sure whether I should capitalize it or not!  We only did one roll in color.  It was Agfa Optima 100, which produces really saturated colors.  In this case I think that it worked well.

Some black and white photos of the same look. Most of the black and white I shot on Ilford XP2 Super, but unfortunately I ran out, so I had to switch to T-Max T400CN for a couple of rolls.

I've carried on about XP2 Super in the past, but I want to mention again how great this film is.  It's about as foolproof as you can get.  You expose it at ISO 400, have it developed at your local minilab (or do it yourself), print on Multigrade IV at grade 3 1/2, and you're done.  It's worth noting that all of the black and white photos on this page are straight prints at grade 3 1/2 with no dodging or burning.

Dress

This is the other look that we did.  I don't think that I intended to shoot the first frame, but I liked it, so I printed it.

This is a different outfit. The shawl is one that I bought to use during Natalie's shoot, but I never got around to it.

This is an awesome digital painting by artist Rantz Hoseley.  He created it on his own initiative and emailed it to me.  It really looks fantastic, so click on it and take a look!  It's fairly large (1042x718), so if it won't fit comfortably on your screen, try the half-size version.  This image is copyright 1999 by Rantz Hoseley.

Outtakes

Anne-Marie talking to someone, probably Harriet (I know it's not me).

This is Anne-Marie's friend Danielle, who came along, presumably to insure that if I turned out to be an axe murderer, it would at least be two on one.  Danielle is also a dancer and would probably be interested in doing some photo work.

I took this photo of Danielle on Polaroid T-56 while Harriet was working on Anne-Marie's make-up.
