Model PhotographyRates and Terms I am available to shoot photos for models who are just getting started in the industry or who are looking to add some new styles to their books. I have a well-appointed studio and can handle most requests given advance notice. Let me know what you have in mind, and I will let you know if I can accommodate you. Rates and TermsDigital Photography If you are a model who is just starting out, digital will give you by far the most bang for the buck. The camera that I use, a 5-megapixel Olympus E-20N, produces 8x10s that are nearly indistinguishable from 8x10s enlarged from 35mm negatives. Not only is digital more economical, it is also much more flexible. You can incorporate digital photos directly into a digital composite layout in PageMaker or Illustrator or some other package, and you can even edit them in Adobe Photoshop. My rate for digital photography is $50 per hour and includes however many photos I can shoot on a CD-ROM that I will create for you at the end of the session. I can also make prints for you at a price of $3 each. Medium Format Photography If you want higher quality, I will shoot your photos on my medium format Bronica SQ-Ai. This camera creates negatives that are 56mm square on 120 roll film, 12 frames per roll. The quality of the prints made from medium format negatives is exceptional. My rate for medium format photography is $100 per hour or $50 per roll of film, whichever is higher. I provide the film and cover the processing costs. I will provide you with the contact sheets once they come back from the lab and will make prints for you at my cost plus 25%. Other Formats and Special Requests I can shoot 35mm and 4x5 if you prefer those formats. In the case of 35mm, my rates are the same as for medium format, though of course you get more pictures per roll. I would not not choose this option, because the quality isn't any better than you would get from digital, but there's no accounting for taste. If you want large format work, then we'll work out terms, as 4x5 photography is quite expensive, and if you want 4x5 then you probably have other unique requirements as well. Further possibilities include medium and large format pinhole photography, cross-processing, alternative darkroom processes, and more. Let me know what you're after and we'll figure out something. Make-Up and Hair My basic rate does not include a make-up artist or a hair stylist, but I strongly encourage you to hire one or the other for your shoot. (See my Tips for Models page for more information about this.) I can schedule a make-up artist or hair stylist for you, or you can make your own arrangements. Location I will work "on location" in downtown Manhattan for my usual rates. If you want me to go elsewhere then we'll have to make special arrangements. Time for Prints I occasionally work with models on a time for prints (TFP) basis. TFP simply means that the model and I both work for free with the expectation that the session will produce prints that will enhance our portfolios. Aside from the absence of payment, the main difference between regular and TFP shoots is that in the case of a regular shoot, the model, as the client, calls the shots, while a TFP shoot is more collaborative. I prefer to do TFP work with models who already have some modeling experience and want to broaden their portfolios, but I will consider new models who show promise. I am particularly interested in working with dancers and perfomers. If you would like to work with me on a TFP basis then please ask. I will cover most photographic expenses, but you will have to cover the cost of your own prints. We can address other expenses (additional talent, prop rental, etc.) on a case-by-case basis. Ownership and Rights I retain the copyright and ownership of all photos. You are granted a non-exclusive right to use the photos for your own self-promotion. I retain the right to display or exhibit the photos and use them for my own self-promotion. (If you do not want me to display or use the photos then I may be willing to waive that right.) I don't require that you sign a model release and will not resell the photos. Help Me Help YouWhen you hire me as your photographer, you are buying my time and my expertise. However, I can't take exceptional pictures of you just by pointing my camera and pressing the button. I need your help. Please take some time to read my Tips for Models so that you can make the most of my service. Contact MeIf you'd like to talk to me about doing some work with you, then please contact me by phone, email, or snail mail. Willis Boyce Last updated November 28, 2001
